Omar Saleh is the frontend architect at Lumio, where he leads the web and Android teams building for low-cost phones on slow, expensive networks. He led Lumio's move from a large single-page app to server-rendered pages with small islands of interactivity, which cut the dashboard's JavaScript by eighty per cent and made it usable on a 3G connection.

Omar teaches a free evening course in web development in Cairo for people changing careers. He lives in Heliopolis, sketches buildings in a pocket notebook, and maintains a small open-source library for right-to-left layouts.
