Inês Carvalho leads research at Quill, the language-learning app with four million learners a month. She grew Quill's research practice from one person to a team of seven, and set up the weekly learner sessions that every designer, engineer and product manager at Quill joins at least once a month.

Her study of why learners quit in their third week reshaped Quill's entire first month, and its retention with it. Before Quill she was an ethnographer, studying how families share a single phone. Inês lives in Graça, sings in a community choir and is, by her own account, a terrible surfer.
